| Final Europeana Local Technical Workshop While current Semantic Web-technologies offer a wide range of exciting possibilities for information retrieval and exploration, these possibilities puts great demands on metadata quality. One of the requirements for metadata to be used in rich semantic data models are that they should reference controlled vocabularies for person names, geographical names, time-periods or topics. While such vocabularies may exist in printed form throughout Europe, their practical implementation is most often limited to free-text keywords in electronic data entry forms. The purpose of the 8th and last technical workshop in the EuropeanaLocal project is to establish a methodology for local cultural heritage institutions to get started with the Europeana Data Model based on the current situation at local level. |
